How beauty has changed over the years

The way beauty is viewed and what we now consider as beautiful has changed dramatically over the years. What is now considered as beautiful is very different to a hundred years ago.

If we go back as far as the Italian Renaissance in 1400 to 1700. During this time the ideal and perfect woman was an Ample Bosom, rounded stomach, full hips and fair hair. This was because it was seen as a wife's job to reflect her husbands status, in behaviour and appearance.

However, during the Victorian England era in1837 to1901. Women wore corsets to make their waist look smaller and give them an 'hourglass' figure. the corsets restrained women from being able to move. Women also wore their hair long so that they could appear more feminine.
We have had many other ideas about what a woman's ideal body type and look is from the 20s where women tried to hide their waists and wore bras that flattened their breasts, to the Golden age of Hollywood in the 1930s to 1950s. during this time movie starts like Marilyn Monroe flaunted their curves and embraced their femininity and plus sizes. We then go through the time of the 60s which changed the idea of women's body types from 'curvy' to tall and 'thin'. During the 1980s supermodels like Cindy Crawford changed the game. They promoted a fitter body type of wanting to be tall, slim and athletic. The aftermath of the 1980s left us with the ' heroin chic' look of the 1990s, this was a time where women wants or were supposed to look thin, withdrawn and pale.
That leaves us with the 2000s our era, where women are supposed to be slim but not too thin, are supposed to have curves but not to be plus sized. Women are expected to have large breasts and a large butt, but a flat stomach. Due to the demands of beauty in the 2000s there has been a large increase in plastic surgery so that women can achieve these expected looks.
Kim Kardashian and her sisters are some of the most influential women in the 20th century, in terms of their body types.
